Why everyone keeps coming back.

Tata Ilio Pares - Mami in Caloocan is a must-visit culinary gem for any food lover craving authentic Filipino comfort food. Specializing in pares—a beloved Filipino beef stew known for its rich, savory broth—this humble eatery offers a flavor profile that’s both satisfying and distinctively unpretentious. Unlike the typically sweet pares, Tata Ilio serves up a more savory and hearty version that immediately captivates the palate.

The star of the menu, of course, is their pares. Diners will appreciate the generous portions of tender beef, perfectly cooked to melt in your mouth, accompanied by an unli (unlimited) serving of rice and soup that truly fills you up without breaking the bank. The broth, deep and flavorful, is so comforting it almost feels like a warm embrace after a long day. Complementing this are their ihaw-ihaw (grilled meats), each piece large and juicy, paired expertly with a vinegar dipping sauce that tantalizes your taste buds with its tangy punch.

One of the charming aspects of Tata Ilio Pares is its focus on delivering honest, straightforward meals without sacrificing quality. Customer reviews echo this sentiment, praising the restaurant for its “good quality of foods and services” and the unli rice and soup offerings that make every visit feel like a feast. The ambiance is casual and welcoming, making it an ideal spot for quick, hearty meals where flavor and satisfaction are the priority.

Whether you’re a pares purist or a fan of grilled Filipino fare, Tata Ilio Pares offers a deliciously authentic taste experience that’s both budget-friendly and truly fulfilling. The savory richness of their pares, the substantial ihaw-ihaw, and the unbeatable value make this Caloocan landmark a culinary treasure you’ll want to return to again and again.

Their pares is actually good for its price. If you’re not into sweet pares, this is for you because their pares is savory. Hindi rin tinipid sa laman na pipiliin mo. Their ihaw ihaw is big. And the vinegar tastes good. Not bad for its price.

Reviews of food normally - on the most basic level - take 2 things into account. The food itself, and the price. Everything else is just an add-on (or side dish) to what matters about food. This is a cheap place to eat probably the best pares in the QC area. The flavor profile of the inexpensive bowl of beef pares and rice is something to behold. Couple that with a hearty spread of table condiments to customize your food - perfect! It's very cheap, but the serving sizes remind me of the street food "bowls" served in Thailand. You can easily eat 2 orders of their signature beef pares with room to spare. Eating here is an experience in itself. Long communal table (yes, not really too optimal in these past 24 months of COVID), table condiments from fish sauce to chicharon cracklings (more like powder) - all of which add to the experience. Good news! There's a huge parking area at the side of this place! It looks like a remnant of a food park - but they are currently not operating so it can be used for parking. Overall, for the price, I'd give this place a 6-star rating of a could. This could be on its way to becoming the Philippines version of that Michelin 1-star restaurant Hawker Chan.
